Deaf Interpreter: How to Become an Active CASLI Member 

General Information

Thank you for your interest in joining CASLI! Here is some general information about CASLI membership:

  • CASLI Membership Year

    The CASLI membership year is from April 1st to March 31st annually.  New memberships can be processed at any time of the year, but membership fees will not be pro-rated. All memberships must be renewed by the next March 31st. 

    As an incentive for new members to join or expired/lapsed members to re-join, those that purchase a 2024-2025 membership between January 1 - March 31, 2024, will immediately be considered a member for the remainder of the current membership year at no additional cost.

    • Dual Membership Required

    All CASLI members are required to be a dual member of CASLI and at least one (1) CASLI Affiliate Chapter of their choice.

    Criteria for Membership

    The current membership criteria for Deaf Interpreter Active membership is:

    • graduation from a CASLI-recognized Interpreter Education Program

    OR

    • meet all of the following criteria (outlined in Motion CA12G-38)
    • 40 documented hours of work as a Deaf Interpreter within the last 4 years
    • 20 documented hours of professional development specific to Deaf Interpreting within the last 4 years
    • 20 documented hours of professional development specific to the process of interpreting within the last 4 years
    • 20 documented hours of professional development specific to ethics within the last 4 years.
    • submit 2 letters of support
    • 1 letter of support from the Board of the Affiliate Chapter the applicant is applying to become a member
    • 1 letter of support from either one of the following:
      • letter of support from a Deaf organization in good standing in the province where the applicant resides/works, OR
      • letter of support from an Active CASLI member who has experience working with you


    Cost of a Deaf Interpreter Active Membership

    The cost to become an Active Deaf Interpreter member depends on many factors, such as

    • first-time member discount
    • Affiliate Chapter fees
    • if you are the age 60 or older
    • if you are late to renew or if your membership status is lapsed/expired

      How to Apply for Membership

      If you have graduated from an interpreter training program, please apply for membership please visit the Become a Member page (scroll down to the bottom of the screen).

      If you have not graduated from an interpreter training program, but meet the alternative criteria described above, please click here to fill out this form to apply and attach the completed form to your application.

      Are you a Current Member Looking to Renew your Membership?

      Current memberships and subscription services can be renewed beginning January 1 and must be renewed by 11:59 pm PST of March 31 annually.
